Meet the Flow-ers: Mikko

It is the team that makes the Flow, so let’s meet with the team to understand what and why Just Flow It is. Our co-founder is Mikko Sillanpää, a project manager and serial entrepreneur. With background in online services, marketing and communication Mikko has a wide experience from all sides of developing online systems. Efficient organisation, processes and workflows have always been in the centre of attention for Mikko professionally. Focus on human-centered design and efficiency are his hallmarks.

Mikko has studied visual arts and specialised into history at the university. During his career he has worked in and managed advertising agencies, PR agencies and digital marketing agencies. How does all this come together in Just Flow It?

“When Kateryna asked me to join in to Just Flow It, I thought about it for maybe a half an hour, and then said that yes, I’m in. For me this is a really wonderful opportunity to use my experience to help companies of different sizes to get the digital tools they really deserve to have. With business and organisation it’s always the question about people. In our case that means getting the everyday tools to be so good, that people get the flow experience with them. It’s not an easy task, and I’m also looking forward to learn a lot from each of our projects with the clients.” Mikko says.

The background in communications and in building online services gives Mikko a great overall understanding of different kind of businesses as well as of different kind of people. Interestingly, also the background in historical research helps in this.

“History is about people, more precisely about decisions of people. One of the most inspiring quotes I have is from my professor Hannu Salmi from cultural history studies. He said that past is always a different culture, and for us, looking at the past through our own concepts and contexts, it sometimes feels that people in the past have done incomprehensible decisions, or been outright silly. But that is not the case. They have been as every bit as intelligent human beings as us. But they have made their decisions through their own concepts, which make all the difference in understanding. He told us, that whenever we get this feeling that people of the past have been not very smart, it is very probable, that we have uncovered a cultural difference. I could not agree more about this, working with very different kinds of people throughout my career, I think this principle is also applicable on any human connections. To understand these points of views and their underlaying guiding principles have always fascinated me and inspired me in design of processes and systems.” Mikko tells.

Wherever the Flow takes

Mikko has experience in no-code development from different tools and platforms. In Just Flow It Mikko will focus on client relations and planning of the workflows. Deep interest in the development of the systems probably also means that Mikko is taking an active role within the team in developing the systems.

“This is an opportunity I really look forward into. Getting to help my clients with business tools and processes is very inspiring challenge for me. I’ll look forward seeing where the Flow takes us, I believe there’s a huge business potential here!” Mikko says.
